Membership in the Village Association is mandatory for all business who are located within the geographical boundaries of the Village (Colton Blvd. to the north, Village Square to the south, Highway 13 to the west, Lucas Ave. to the east). Many businesses located adjacent to the Village have asked if they could be members, to gain the benefits the Association offers.

In 2010 we created an Associate Membership Policy. If you are a business located within the immediate vicinity of Montclair Village and have a valid City of Oakland business license, you are welcome to complete an Associate Membership Application Form. Once your application has been accepted and you have paid your annual dues ($150), you can begin to enjoy the membership benefits, including:

  • FREE or Discounted promotional opportunities – group ad placements, planter sponsorship and/or mosaic, booth/ table space at events
  • Utilization of the MVA Booth at the Sunday Village Farmer’s Market, reaching as many as 2,000 people (advanced reservation required)
  • Sharing of business news through the Montclair Village News electronic newsletter, reaching over 1,700 households
  • Ability to participate in all merchant networking mixers
  • A business listing on the MVA website under the appropriate Associate Membership heading and Business Category, including business name, contact info, business logo, link to business website, business description/ picture/ video
  • A business listing in all printed Village directories/ kiosks under the appropriate Associate Membership heading (business name and contact info only)
  • Promotion through the MVA Facebook network
  • Event listings on the MVA website Community Calendar
  • Involvement in Association events like the Annual Holiday Stroll and Restaurant Walk
  • Ability to serve on MVA committees and the MVA Board of Directors
  • Ability to attend monthly MVA Board meetings and present any questions, issues, or information about their business during Open Forum

Requirements for a MVA Associate Membership

To be considered for an MVA Associate Membership a business must:

  • be located in the 94611 (or northeast portion of 94602) zip code, essentially:
    • to the Oakland border (Caldecott Tunnel) to the north
    • to Skyline Drive to the east
    • to Redwood Road to the south
    • to the City of Piedmont border to the west
  • not be located in another BID
  • have a current, valid Oakland business license
  • provide products or services to the public
  • not provide products or services that are illegal, pornographic or of a questionable nature to the greater Montclair Village community.

Approval Process

Any business that meets the Requirements and wishes to be considered for an Associate Membership should complete an Associate Membership Application Form and return to the MVA office.  An Associate Membership Committee will review and approve all applications, and notify the applicant once the review process has been completed.  An Assessment Form will be sent with the approval for payment of the appropriate Fee.
